The collaboration agreements between SSM Health, Saint Louis University, and SLUCare physicians requires the replacement of the existing Saint Louis University Hospital facility and development of an ambulatory care center to consolidate outpatient diagnostic, clinical, and patient treatment services that are currently fragmented across multiple service locations.
The 600,000-square-foot replacement hospital will have 316 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms, and a diagnostic and clinical chassis. A 200,000-square-foot outpatient facility with a parking garage and expanded emergency department will also be added.
The hospital program will provide support for the academic mission of the organization by including large alcoves in the hallways for physicians and residents to gather for discussion without disrupting hallway traffic.
The ambulatory care center is projected to serve 200,000 visits to the applicable physician practices and will house the clinical and diagnostic chassis to support projected outpatient and cancer program workloads.
A new central utility plant will serve the new facilities to meet the needs of the repurposed west pavilion, Desloge building, and any other miscellaneous loads that are currently connected to the existing power plant.
The hospital, ambulatory care center, renovation of the west pavilion and required parking facilities/site development will be developed on land parcels adjacent to the existing hospital and are expected to approach $350 million in construction cost.
