Medical Center Commissioning

University of Chicago Medicine

IMEG served as the commissioning authority for this project which achieved LEED Silver certification. IMEG provided both LEED Fundamental and Enhanced commissioning for this nearly 1.2 million square foot, 10-story facility, a world class addition to the existing medical center. This facility is focused on advanced treatment of cancer, high tech imaging, the neurosciences, advanced surgery, and gastrointestinal procedures. The facility includes 240 private patient rooms, 24 operating rooms, extensive imaging facilities, 7 interventional radiology rooms, and a GI suite including 12 procedure rooms, 2 fluoroscopy rooms and 2 bronchoscopy rooms. A cafeteria, pharmacy, and other support areas are included, as well as two floors of shell space for future diagnostic and treatment service expansion. The building is served by campus steam and its own chiller plant. The scope of commissioning was very extensive, with items such as nurse call, paralleling switchgear, oversight of NETA acceptance testing and generator operation going well beyond LEED requirements. Complex blackout tests were also part of the project scope. IMEG served as the prime consultant and has teamed with Questions and Solutions Inc. for this project.
