SSM St. Clare’s new greenfield hospital campus includes a new Ambulatory Surgical Center. The first floor houses a 17,000-sf Surgery Center tenant space with the 2nd floor reserved for physician offices. A partial basement houses the building’s utility infrastructure and includes space for a future redundant data center for the hospital.
The project was designed for two phases – shell & core and tenant fit-out. However, designs were completed simultaneously and required working with different architects for each piece. One unique aspect of the project is that normal emergency power and fire protection systems are served from the new hospital, requiring extensive coordination. Because the hospital is served by a customer-owned substation with two incoming feeds, attaching the ASC provided a more reliable power source. Also, by tying to the hospital’s system eliminated the need for an additional emergency generator on-site at the ASC. The hospital had spare capacity on its emergency generator.
