IMEG provided structural and MEP engineering services for the Children’s Hospital of Orange County’s new seven-story patient care tower and central plant in Orange, CA. The project also included a 50,000-sf renovation of the hospital’s existing tower to enhance continuity between the two patient care buildings. The new tower includes pediatric surgical suites, radiology, laboratories, pathology and an emergency department. The 300-bed hospital also includes a state-of-the-art NICU. Designed to be one of the safest hospitals in the country, innovative concepts were used from aerospace, aviation and manufacturing sectors. Each private patient room is identical, with supplies and equipment located in exactly the same place to reduce errors by the healthcare team. Nursing alcoves located in each room were designed to allow nurses to have closer access to patients. The project was awarded a 2014 Alliant Build America award from the Associated General Contractors Association (AGC).
