Simpson College added a new 2-story student center with offices, conference rooms, kitchen and dining area, multi-purpose space, bookstore, and black box theater.
The team worked diligently to meet the owner’s goals for the project while keeping costs within budget. Additional challenges included working within a tight site space with limited space for the placement of the geothermal well field and other underground utilities.
The 180-ton geothermal well field serves water-to-air heat pumps to provide heating, cooling, and ventilation air to the building. The two ventilation air handling units on the roof utilized energy recovery wheels along with the integral heat pumps.
