New Laboratory Facility

LKPB Engineers, an IMEG company, provided engineering and design services for St. Cloud State University’s Integrated Science and Engineering Laboratory Facility, or ISELF. The project was the final addition to St. Cloud State’s three-part science initiative to remodel and add on to other campus buildings in 2008 and 2010.

Engineers provided MEP design for the new 100,000-sf facility, which was designed to be an interdisciplinary, flexible laboratory space used by engineers, chemists, scientists, and biologists. The $44.8 million facility includes a robotics lab, clean room, imaging center, offices, classrooms, business collaboration space, and labs that feature flexible spaces, moveable benches, and cabinetry. The mechanical and electrical systems were designed for maximum flexibility in lab setup and operation, each designed with capacity for future additional equipment and maintenance.

The facility serves upper- and graduate-level science, technology, engineering, mathematics, medical technology, and radiology classes. The project completes the school’s science campus and claims the title of largest single-construction project to date, currency-wise, in the history of Minnesota State colleges and universities.

The project is pursuing LEED Gold certification.
