Rancho Los Amigos Rehab Center wins BD+C Building Team Award

IMEG provided structural engineering services for the Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Downey, CA., recipient of a Building Design+Construction 2019 Building Team Silver Award. The $412 million, 200,000-sf facility and 28-acre campus revitalization was completed in September 2018.

The project’s integrated design-build team was led by architect Taylor Design and architect of record SmithGroup, working with general contractor McCarthy Building Companies, IMEG, and other consultants. According to BD+C, the team used a “Big Room” approach and collocated to “rapidly create, prototype, and price numerous design solutions.”

The campus includes a 12,000-sf wellness center that houses physical therapy, aquatic therapy, and advanced rehabilitative technologies for spinal cord injury and stroke patients. The campus also offers therapy and horticulture gardens, an amphitheater, and a sports court.

The Building Team Awards program celebrates excellence in team collaboration and design/construction solutions. Read the magazine’s story on this project.
