Critical Infrastructure Assessment

IMEG provided engineering design services for the United State Air Force Plant 42, Site 2 located in Palmdale, California. Site 2 is the location of the refurbishment facility for the Air Force’s U-2 Dragon Lady aircraft fleet.

This facility has been the home of the U-2 production and repairs since the 1950’s and has had very little modernization. The project was to review all the existing building mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, underground utilities and pavement to determine the required repairs and upgrades. After an intense survey of all site and building conditions, the team met with the owner to determine the best course of action for individual smaller projects with budgets that can be presented to the USAF leadership for funding. The project budgets were grouped together and proposed as a 5-year master plan for modernization of the facility.

Key systems upgraded included air handling equipment, boilers, air cooled chillers, electrical switchgears, sewer and storm drainage piping, and the fire alarm system.
