Industrial Food Process and Laboratory Facility

IMEG was selected to provide full engineering design for a building gut-renovation to serve as the new location for an industrial food process and laboratory facility. The purpose of the project was to provide a new facility for the existing functions and to make improvements that address deficiencies in the existing building.

The new facility was designed to showcase both the products and processes for potential visitors. A new entry lobby included large display areas with specialty lighting. Large windows were included in each of the pilot plant bays to allow clear observation from the adjacent corridor. The kitchen included overhead cameras and multiple display monitors to allow large crowds to participate in the demonstrations. A lounge, large meeting room, and exterior patio provided the flexible space needed for visitor functions. The building also included multiple laboratories, high-bay storage, walk-in freezers and coolers, office space, conference rooms, break areas, restrooms, and employee showers.

The design for the renovated building included an upgraded electrical service, all new power distribution and lighting, fire alarm design, new air handling units, distribution ductwork, exhaust fans, fume hoods, kitchen design, steam boiler, plumbing distribution, water heaters, compressed air, nitrogen piping, vacuum system, access control, security cameras, audio/visual, and voice/data systems. IMEG also provided structural reinforcements for new wall and roof openings and to support new equipment.

The owner/architect/engineering team collaborated throughout the project to optimize the final design. IMEG was engaged to provide construction administration services including assistance with bid evaluation, review of submittals, and participation in on-site meetings and jobsite observations.
