New Hydroponics Lab Facility – Part of IDIQ Contract

IMEG provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services for a new USDA lab on the University of Toledo campus in Toledo, Ohio. The lab focuses on hydroponics to provide research for growing plants in soil-less media such as nutrient-rich water for bedding plants and floral crops. This research enhances the quality and yield of greenhouse produced floricultural crops while minimizing water, fertilizer, and chemical inputs and developing new or improved methods for controlling pathogens, pests, and stresses associated with greenhouse production.

The project consists of:

  • BSL 2 research labs, offices for IR-4 food use / ornamentals and insects
  • The 14 greenhouse bays for greenhouse production, agricultural engineering, and pesticides. The greenhouse contains such equipment as cold foggers, electro-static and low volume sprayers, thermal pulse-jet foggers, in-line injection systems, and air assist with cross-flow fans.
  • 4 Visiting Researcher Labs
  • Administrative and conference space
