Construction begins on DMU’s new 88-acre campus

Des Moines University has begun construction on a new 88-acre campus in West Des Moines. IMEG is providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design for project’s four buildings, all of which will seek LEED and WELL Building Standard certification.

According to Building Design + Construction magazine, the campus will include “flexible environments that allow for didactic, active-learning and small group work. Learning studios and laboratories will be technology-rich while simulated health care environments will reflect those of modern care facilities, providing learners with a safe environment in which to practice patient care.”

“Today, we celebrate the strong future of growth and innovation for DMU and commemorate the beginning of this new chapter in the evolution of our University,” University President and Chief Executive Officer Angela L. Walker Franklin said during the Sept. 10 groundbreaking. “During the last 18 months we have been working fast and creatively through the campus master planning and design process. Our future has never been stronger and more promising.”

The new campus is expected to open in 2023, the year of the school’s 125th anniversary.
