IMEG to provide design for energy-efficient animal control and care facility

IMEG is providing engineering design and services for a new 21,850-sf animal control and care facility in Des Moines that will replace the city’s current outdated and undersized building and meet their energy efficiency goals.

The facility will house a reception area, administration spaces, veterinary clinic and surgery area, kennels, treatment and support spaces, and public education spaces – all of which were designed to meet Association of Shelter Veterinarians (ASV) guidelines and regulations.

The design will include primary heating and cooling systems sourced by electric utilities, a 145-ton geothermal system, and an adjacent photovoltaic array that will provide electricity for the facility and several other municipal buildings designed by IMEG and will pursue LEED Gold certification upon completion in 2023.
