New Headquarters

IMEG provided structural engineering design and construction administration services for Poettker Construction’s new, state-of-the-art corporate headquarters. Housing both a 40,700- sf office and a 12,000-sf warehouse, the project consolidates five separate facilities into a single, cohesive building that is 30 percent larger than the existing facilities combined.

The structural design features of the office building include a central building with high ceilings and exposed connections with interrelated structures adjacent and connected to the central structure, featuring materials and finishes including structural steel framing, concrete, exposed glulam beams, masonry, metal wall panels, wood plank siding, and standing seam metal roofing. The structural materials used for the headquarters building supported the aesthetic goal of resembling historic German “bank barns” with materials and finishes such as tongue and groove wood, metal fittings, and stone foundations.

Embodying and celebrating the company’s heritage, the project balances respect for its rural surroundings while displaying the firm’s craftsmanship and construction capabilities to employees and clients. The new facility features open-collaboration workstations, private offices, conference rooms, training room, 24-hour fitness center, game area, and an outdoor sanctuary with water features, walking paths, and natural landscaping.

The building was also designed with consideration for sustainability and carbon footprint reduction. The design optimized energy performance by including a geothermal HVAC system, LED lighting throughout the building, and a solar panel farm installed adjacent to the on-site lake.
