New Single Family Residence

IMEG provided structural engineering and design services for the Big Timber Riverside single-family residence in Big Timber, MT. The 3,800-sf private residence sits on a 2,000-acre ranch in a hundred-year-flood plain. Sitting on a 30-inch-tall porous plinth lifting the finish floors, the house is comprised of two distinct and separate facades that form a “T” shape: one, a two-level glass wedge, the other a one-story wooden bar.  A glass-enclosed hall along the western side of the residence adds to the width of the wooden structure and recalls the scale and function of the covered walkways in former frontier towns.

The project’s structural systems and primary components consist of a steel frame, concrete foundation, metal roofing, native planted sod roof, readapted barn siding, Ipe decking, geothermal heating and cooling, and LED light fixtures. Read more.
