Historic Federal Building Renovation

IMEG provided engineering design services for the historic renovation of the Hipolito F. Garcia Federal Building and United States Courthouse, built in 1937 and located in the central business district of San Antonio, near the Alamo. The six-story, approximately 300,000-sf federal building was designed in the neo-classical, Beaux style and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Engineers provided MEP upgrades for the historic renovation, preservation, and modernization of the federal building, which houses the bankruptcy courts, executive agencies, and post office. The designs included refurbishing interior spaces, restructuring the MEP systems, extensive demolition, and installation of new partitions and ceilings.

The renovation was completed in accordance with applicable historic preservation regulations while the building was occupied.

The project is the first LEED Platinum building owned by the General Services Administration (GSA).
