Library Renovation

IMEG provided MEP engineering design and construction administration services for the renovation of the City of Madison’s Pinney Library. The newly renovated library features classrooms and children’s program areas as well as single and group study rooms, providing new library spaces for all ages. A new circulation desk was also provided to increase operations and workflow.

The renovation was constructed as a tenant infill and the space is served by unique systems, such as a raised floor system. The design also included efficient LED lighting for both interior and exterior lighting systems; energy-efficient VRF water-cooled heat pumps to heat and cool the entire facility; a geothermal bore field used as a heat sink and source, driving the heat pump efficiency even higher; and a dedicated outside air system (DOAS) to provide ventilation air to most of the facility. The system includes an energy recovery system to both reduce energy costs and provide space humidity control.

The projected energy savings for Pinney Library is 44 percent better than the baseline, which was calculated from Appendix G of ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2007.
