Q&A with Jeff Burton, new client executive for technology

IMEG Corp. has promoted Jeff Burton to the role of client executive, leading one of the firm’s two technology teams

Jeff has more than 30 years of experience in technology, security, and system integration, and most recently served as a project executive working out of IMEG’s office in Naperville, IL. He took time out recently to answer the following questions:

What drew you toward technology engineering?

While growing up I was around the family business. My grandfather started an electrical repair shop with his knowledge of aircraft electronics after he returned from the war. My dad obtained his electrical engineering degree and grew the company into a diverse range of electrical and electronic services. As a kid I held the flashlight for my father on those midnight service calls, and have been intrigued by how things work ever since.

What is one of your most memorable projects?

Shortly after joining IMEG, I worked on several expansion and renovation projects in the healthcare sector. I had worked on the design of greenfield hospitals, but these were the first projects to open my eyes to the pace and complexities of patient care.

What is critical for a successful consultant-client relationship?

Responsiveness and dependability. As we push back against the commoditization of the engineering industry, we at IMEG can continue to differentiate our firm by being easy to work with.

What one thing will have the greatest effect on technology design of the future?

“The Internet of Things  the applications for which are practically limitless. IoT is the core technology for smart space concepts and industry. Furthermore, IoT sensors can be used to develop processes for a wide range of operations. The digital transformation has already resulted in extensive changes in the role of technology in the business world. IMEG can provide thought leadership as the pace of these changes increases; the greatest opportunities lie ahead.

Describe the qualities and capabilities of your team.

“My team – one of two IMEG technology groups – consists of more than 30 subject matter experts in all areas of technology design and all market sectors. We will focus on both local projects in the Midwest and national opportunities. The team has broad technology experience in most vertical markets. For example, our existing acoustics subject matter experts are part of our team. Our strength is our staff and the ability to collaborate with our peers – such as the firm’s Healthcare Information Technology and Medical Equipment Planning staff – to provide a depth of expertise and level of technology consulting and design services that few firms can match.

How do you relax and unwind?

Boating and time at the lake with the family. I also unwind by listening to high resolution audio on a British Hi-Fi system.
