New strategy combines security, lighting for early warning, safe egress during K-12 emergencies

An IMEG whitepaper outlines innovative early warning strategies that combine a K-12 building’s new or existing security and lighting systems to function as a notification resource during an active assailant event or environmental emergency.

“K-12 Security + Lighting” demonstrates how one cohesive platform can detect and identify various threats and communicate their locations, probable areas of safety, egress information, as well as other helpful directives. Authors of the paper are IMEG Architectural Lighting Leader Shanna Olson, Security Team Project Executive Charles LeBlanc, and Security Consulting Group Leader Ryan Searles.

The paper explains how the two systems can be integrated and describes the various lighting control sequences that communicate the various directives. Virtual design animations are included to demonstrate the separate sequences suggested for active assailant events and for environmental emergencies such as fires and tornadoes.
