University of Minnesota rec center wins indoor environmental quality award

The University of Minnesota’s Recreation Center expansion project was awarded the Best of B3 Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) – Workplace award for achieving high levels of occupant satisfaction in the Sustainable Post-Occupancy Evaluation process.

IMEG provided MEP design and services for the $60 million, 145,000-sf expansion, which included two new gymnasiums, additional space for fitness equipment, new locker rooms, jogging track, and climbing wall. The facility’s four-story atrium and large open staircase bring natural light deep into the building and promote physical activity, an achievement that led to an IEQ satisfaction score of 5.53 (on a scale from 1 to 7) based on employee responses to a post-occupancy survey.
