Data Center Renovation

IMEG provided engineering design services for the upgrade of the Kroger Tier III Data Center in Cincinnati, Ohio originally constructed in 1978. The upgrades resulted in a high availability data center while also being highly efficient from a mechanical and electrical perspective. The mechanical design included a new scalable central chilled water system with multi-stacked chillers and free coolers feeding chilled water CRAC units with variable airflow. Electrical design included a second 2500kVA, self-contained, outdoor, stand-by generator and the extension of the electrical distribution system.

Other miscellaneous improvements included new Liebert iCOM controls and Liebert Site Scan monitoring, expansion of the existing DDC system, a new Emergency Power Off (EPO) system, updated lighting and controls, added under floor leak detection system, and upgraded fire alarm system. The design resulted in Kroger obtaining a $130,000 incentive check from the Duke Energy Smart $aver program and a measured savings of over $100,000 in utility bills during the first year of operation.
