Historic Building Renovation

IMEG is providing engineering design and construction period services for the 308,000-sf renovation of the historic Belden Stratford building. The 16-story Beaux Arts building is one of the most prominent structures overlooking Lincoln Park in Chicago, IL.

The major renovation of the historic structure comprises infrastructure improvements including new chillers and boilers, a new emergency generator, upgrades to MEP systems throughout the building, FCU replacement, select riser replacement; a new DDC system; and upgrades to the life safety systems. The project is being delivered and constructed in two phases – a common area/infrastructure phase, and a residential tower phase.

Plans also call for removing the Level 3 floor infill added in the 1980’s in the north ballroom and conversion of the upper two levels of the apartment tower to duplex units. The lower level that includes amenity areas in addition to tenant spaces, will be reprogrammed. Stairs and elevators will be extended to all floors, including the roof.
