New Data Center

IMEG provided structural engineering design services for CyrusOne’s Kincora Data Center, which at full build-out, totals over one million square feet. Located in Loudoun County, VA, the facility has direct access to one of the largest fiber hubs in the United States. With the need for hyper-speed and hyper-scalable data centers continuing to grow, the Kincora Data Center is designed to scale appropriately and quickly to meet increased demand added to its system.

Phase I of the project was approximately 650,000-sf and included a two-story data hall with galleries, a three-story office building, two-story dock and storage areas, two-story future development over storage areas, electrical equipment yards, and chiller platforms above the roof. The data center also includes an upscale lobby and nine-foot building step due to the sloping site. The shell building is a precast concrete framing system consisting of double tees, beams, columns, and panels.

Phase II was a two-story expansion to Phase I and includes four data halls and a two-story office area with an above-roof chiller platform and electrical equipment yards. Data Center Dynamics awarded Phase II of the project with the 2019 Hyperscale Data Center Innovation Award for its original design and technological solutions benefitting the wider data center community.
