New Hangar LEED Certified

IMEG provided engineering design and services for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics’ replacement maintenance hangar facility and helipad for existing AirCare medical flight services. It includes a hangar for medical helicopters with maintenance shop, office, lounge, and sleeping quarters. Sitework included new helipad, relocating existing fuel tank, new fueling pumps, helipad and security lighting, and perimeter fencing.

The design included ERV, ground water source heat pumps in office/maintenance, radiant heating in hangar, snow melt system, T-5 high bay lighting, lighting controls, telecommunications, and a security and camera system.

The facility’s resistance to the elements, solar orientation, and ease of access were central to the design. Designs also included hydraulic hangar door, epoxy flooring, clerestory for daylighting, and ICC-500 tornado shelter.

The project received LEED certification.
