New High School and Recreation Center

IMEG provided civil engineering, surveying, and landscape architecture services for the redevelopment of the campus. The redevelopment will include a new state-of-the-art high school; new recreation center to include an indoor pool, multipurpose space, boxing gym and gymnasium; outdoor spaces to include a football field, baseball diamond, basketball court, community garden and playground, and modern security enhancements.

The project proposes the removal of the existing Ferebee Hope Recreation Center building along with the removal of old, existing site features throughout the site. The construction of a new recreation center building will be managed by Department of Parks and Recreation and a new high school building will be managed by KIPP DC. New curb cuts are proposed off of both Yuma street SE and 8th street SE. A new parking lot with permeable pavement will be located in the southeast corner of the property. A new multi-purpose athletic field, baseball field, playground and basketball court are also proposed as part of this project. Multiple bioretention areas and green roofs on both buildings along with extensive tree preservations were proposed to meet DOEE’s stringent stormwater management requirements.

Additionally, the existing water, sanitary, and storm mains running through the site property will have to be removed. New utility mains were redesigned and re-routed off-site along 8th Street SE into a different drainage shed and tied into existing main lines downstream, which required extensive review and coordination with DC Water.
