New Surgical Clinical Tower Building

IMEG is providing structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering design services for the addition of a 162,000-sf, three-story surgical and clinical tower north of Building 1 at the West Haven VAMC. The scope of work also includes the demolition of several buildings and a 40,000-sf renovation of newly vacated spaces in Building 1. The tower will house an array of surgical services including general and hybrid ORs, pathology and laboratory medicine, ICU, pharmacy, sterile processing services, and more.

Major impacts to existing infrastructure to accommodate this addition include relocation and expansion of multiple utility distribution systems impacted by the new construction, new utility tunnels, coordination with an ongoing steam plant and central plant replacement, increased steam and chiller capacities plus on-site water storage capacity, new electrical substations, parking and road network reconfigurations, and re-grading of site/construction of retaining walls. The project requires phased design and construction and coordination with CT SHPO.
