Hotel & Casino Transformation

The project: The $650 million transformation into a Hard Rock Hotel & Casino includes approximately 2,00 guestrooms and suites, casino, 15 dining experiences, full-service salon, spa, fitness center, pool, gas station and car wash, 6,000-seat theater, 2,000-seat venue, lounges, nightclub, beach bar, and 150,000-sf of meeting and event space.

The goal: After purchasing the closed facility in the spring of 2017, the owner wanted the property completely remade and re-branded for opening int July 2018.

The approach: IMEG worked closely with the owner’s development team, the general contractor and the design team to develop the design for approximately 50 individual projects.

Project highlight: As part of the total property transformation, demolition included using “outdoor” construction equipment (such as backhoes, cranes, dump trucks, grinding, slab cutting, etc.) inside the facility—all while the building certificate of occupancy remained in place and back of house (BOH) operation continued.

With demolition complete by the end of 2017, the renovation/remake of the property began quickly in 2018 with 24-hours-a-day / seven-days-a-week construction as design continued.

The outcome: On June 8, 2018, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino cut the ribbon on a $650M completely transformed property
—approximately 14 months after design kick-off.

IMEG previously provided structural design for the second tower under the original owner. The 750,000 square foot, 41-story hotel tower constructed with cast-in-place concrete was an expansion to the original Taj Mahal. The central core of the shearwalls is jump formed and poured along with the floors within the core. Outside of the core a 10” Filigree voided slab system was used to reduce costs and maintain schedule.
