Warehouse Conversion to New Facility

IMEG provided structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering design services for the 60,000-sf conversion of an office/warehouse facility into Beacon Fisheries’ new seafood processing plant and office headquarters. The facility includes a retail market with a commercial-type kitchen, test kitchen/training room, and new restrooms and break area in the processing plant.

The building renovation required modifications to the existing building including the addition of dock doors and ramps, and the modification of the existing slab on grade to accommodate the thermal requirements of the facility’s new coolers and freezers, along with adding drains and under-slab piping. In addition, the building’s existing roof framing components were reinforced to accommodate new rooftop refrigeration equipment, and the design of supports for hanging refrigeration equipment.

IMEG closely coordinated the building’s MEP design with the refrigeration consultant, assisted with the design of the refrigeration system for the fishery, and prepared performance criteria for the commercial storage of frozen seafood.
