American Magic’s new Pensacola headquarters to include design by IMEG

IMEG will provide engineering design and services for the Port of Pensacola’s Maritime Center of Excellence, which will serve as the new permanent headquarters of the New York Yacht Club American Magic sail racing team, which competes in the America’s Cup.

The project is led by the team of Muller 2 and Sam Marshall Architects, for whom IMEG is a subconsultant, providing structural, MEP, and technology design, along with commissioning services. The project will include design, renovation, and completion of the partially completed Warehouse 10 at the Port of Pensacola. Renovations will include a 50-foot addition, along with the design and construction of a dock facility and upland boat slip.

The American Magic High Performance Center is expected to create 170 jobs in the advanced manufacturing, engineering and design, and high-tech research and development sectors. The City of Pensacola will retain ownership of the land, facility, and associated infrastructure. The warehouse facility will be leased to American Magic, with the dock facility and upland boat slip to be used by the sailing team as well as other Port of Pensacola tenants.

American Magic has used the Port of Pensacola on a temporary, seasonal basis since 2018. With their new, permanent home the team plans to develop a pathway for a generation of engineers, boatbuilders, and technicians to enhance the marine industry in the U.S. and set Pensacola on a trajectory of being a leader on the world sailing stage.

The project is funded by grants from Triumph Gulf Coast, Inc., the Governor’s Job Growth Grant Fund, and the Florida Seaport Transportation Economic Development program. Design and construction are expected to take two years.
