IMEG-designed fire station receives energy-efficient design award

The City of Des Moines Fire Station #11 has received a 2022 Excellence in Energy-Efficient Design Award for Commercial New Construction from Alliant Energy and MidAmerican Energy Company for its outstanding efforts in reducing energy usage.

IMEG provided engineering design and services for the new facility, which was designed to LEED V4 standards and achieved an annual energy use reduction of 53%. The building’s sustainability features include an improved building envelope with roof insulation, wall insulation, and insulated overhead doors to reduce the heating and cooling load; a 27-ton water-cooled VRF system with geothermal well field; radiant heating system in the fire truck bays; LED lighting with daylight dimming and vacancy sensors; and a photovoltaic system on the roof.

The Commercial New Construction program provides energy design assistance and energy efficiency incentives for commercial construction in the area served by Alliant Energy and MidAmerican Energy Company.
