IMEG-designed renovation of 1950s-era motel brings nostalgic fun to Phoenix

The renovation of the Egyptian Motor Hotel in Phoenix, AZ, transformed the 1950s-era Las Palmas Inn motel into a “modern boutique” hotel with nostalgic elements throughout the property. IMEG provided mechanical and electrical engineering design and construction administration services for the renovation of the 48-room hotel.

The rooms in the Egyptian, which is operating under Best Western’s BW Signature Collection, feature retro designs and furnishings, including egg chairs, and Bluetooth speakers resembling Marshall amplifiers. Outside, a 400-person live entertainment venue holds a music stage and bar, and a fully remodeled 1960s Airstream houses a private guestroom. The site also includes a Mexican restaurant.

IMEG engineers worked through unique challenges on the project, as converting an old motel into a boutique required innovative solutions. The team was able to preserve the building’s original mid-century charm while upgrading infrastructure to meet current codes and standards and optimizing space to accommodate new amenities, like the lobby, lounge areas, and bar.
