IMEG-designed visitor center to host grand opening

The Jack C. Taylor Visitor Center at the Missouri Botanical Garden is celebrating its grand opening this weekend, Aug. 27-28, with free admission, live music, storytelling, and refreshments.

IMEG provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology engineering design for the new visitor center, which features rare plants from around the world. The facility also includes an event space for up to 450 people, gift shop, meeting spaces, restaurant with garden views, an auditorium, and conservatory with Mediterranean plants.

Sustainable features include a 50,000-gallon rainwater collection cistern which will provide water to plants in the conservatory and green houses, high-efficiency HVAC system with energy recovery wheels, optimized building envelope for energy efficiency and daylighting, and photovoltaic solar panels on the roof.  The building is seeking LEED certification.
