Mayo Clinic nurses ‘see’ new hospital spaces virtually

The Mayo Clinic Health System is using virtual reality to experience the design of its new hospital in La Crosse.

Nurses recently donned VR headsets for an immersive walk-through of patient rooms, labor and delivery rooms, and procedure rooms. They checked out how spaces will be laid out and used, and offered suggestions for fine-tuning the design.

IMEG is providing medical equipment planning, MEP, fire protection, technology, and security engineering services for the project, led by Kahler Slater. When the 290,000-sf, six-floor, 70-bed hospital opens in 2024, it will be Mayo Clinic’s largest and most technologically advanced hospital in La Crosse.
