The William H. Danforth Wing is a new, 80,000-sf research building addition to the 136,000-sf Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis, the world’s largest independent nonprofit research institute focused on plant science. Primary goals of the project were to provide a flexibile, state-of-the-art research wing that could adapt to future changes in the
Project Market: Science and Technology
New Laboratory Facility
IMEG provided engineering and design services for St. Cloud State University’s Integrated Science and Engineering Laboratory Facility, or ISELF. The project was the final addition to St. Cloud State’s three-part science initiative to remodel and add on to other campus buildings in 2008 and 2010. Engineers provided MEP design for the new 100,000-sf facility, which
New Life Science Building
IMEG provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering design for a new Life Science building at Irvine Valley College. The project consisted of a new two-story building for the life and environmental sciences program. The building included pre-manufactured lecture halls, various scientific labs of differing disciplines, lab support, offices, a greenhouse, and meeting spaces. Together, the
New Bioengineering Building
IMEG provided structural design for this 110,000-sf, five-level facility. The building was designed with a mixed concrete shear wall/floor joist system, with upon level concrete shear wall with steel roof framing. The two buildings were separated by a seismic joint. The building includes 28 unique custom laboratories, a vivarium, a high-tech library, and lecture halls.
School of Medicine Couch Biomedical Research Building
The 200,000-sf, LEED Gold certified Couch Biomedical Research Building is located on open space (surface parking and landscaped areas) at Washington University. In years past, this was a residential neighborhood with small single family masonry residences that have been razed leaving buried subsurface rubble. The facility replaces older, less efficient research space with new, highly
New Research Laboratory Facility
IMEG provided engineering design and services for the 107,000-sf Federal Research Laboratory facility operated by the Secretaria de Salud in the heart of Mexico City. The facility consists of a vivarium and Bio-Safety Laboratory Level III (BSL-3) high containment laboratories that focus on Tuberculosis research. The labs are designed to comply with strict CDC BMBL requirements for a
New Science Laboratory
Wheaton College wanted to provide their students and faculty with a state-of-the-art science facility for academic instruction and faculty research. A new 128,000-sf facility was built and includes all disciplines of the science curriculum at Wheaton College. The building houses chemistry, environmental science, physics, biology, geology, math, and computer science departments with specific labs for
University Science Hall Renovation
IMEG provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology engineering design and services, along with construction administration, for Drake University’s new Science Connector Building. The building is located between Olin and Fitch halls and creates a bridge to nearby Harvey Ingham Hall and Cline Hall, linking all four science and math buildings together. This project
New Technology Center
IMEG provided engineering design and services for the new, 50,000-square-foot Trumpf Technology Center. Trumpf is a leading manufacturer of fabricating equipment and industrial lasers and offers products and solutions in sheet metal processing, laser-based production, and electronic applications. The facility incorporates a 26,000-square-foot open showroom where visitors can observe live sheet metal production. The center
Electron Microscope Lab Improvements
IMEG provided a vibration and acoustic report for Argonne National Laboratory’s Building 212 electron microscope labs. A study completed by an outside consultant identified the existing chiller and HVAC system serving five electron microscope labs as problematic sources of vibration and noise for the electron microscopes. The levels of vibration and noise in the labs
